Our History
The
group was formed in 1976 by the late Don Dudgeon, to perform choral
works, both
sacred and secular. The initial choir of twelve voices soon
established a
reputation for excellence which has been our continuing aim.
Since those early
days our membership has grown to over 50 voices: this has
enabled us to perform
large choral works, such as Mozart's Mass in C, Handel's
Messiah,
Mendelssohn's magnificent oratorio Elijah, and Masses by Haydn and
Schubert. Other concerts have included A Night On Broadway, A Night
At the
Opera and Berry Street Jazz.
The Shoalhaven Lydian
Singers have participated in the annual Shoalhaven
Eisteddfod for
many years,
both as a full choir and as smaller groups taken from
within the
choir. We also
sponsor several sections in the Eisteddfod, to encourage
young
musicians in
their careers.
Our current musical
director is Lesley Challender. New members are always welcome,
so if you enjoy
singing and would like to join our choir, please contact us.
